Now, regarding the contest itself. The first years of contest had a lot of participants, but last year for some reason had almost no entries. This year i thought it would be different, since i’ve increased the reward and i thought that due Covid-19 people would try to win money any way they could. As it happens only 4 people have participated. So i think it has become not worth it to do this contest. I’ll instead focus on the Monster design contest, which always has a lot of participation. I’ll probably look into mixing the Succubus comic in it as well, so stay tuned for early 2021.
………starting to think Succubus comic is more popular then the actual fucking comic the character is from. XD
Probably.
It happened the same with Monster girls on tour. It spawned as random comic strips about Guild adventure then became more popular than it.
How do you feel about that actually?
Did you expect it to happen and are you happy about it?
Well, with the Succubus comic i don’t mind. I feel it’s a really good idea and the pages come out better.
The Guild adventure thing is a little more complicated. I’ve talked about this before, but basically the K’sara group was originally created because i wanted to show how stereotypical and simple characters become much more popular than actually fleshed out, complex and well writen ones. I talk about that in lenght in this article https://www.kukuruyo.com/2018/02/26/mainstream-shonens-bad-default/
So basically the K’sara group was made to imitate the typical shonen protagonist group, with the typical Red character/Blue character rivalship, the typical Fire based protagonist, with the typical big sword, etc.
It worked so well that they became the fan favourite characters, and it ended up leading to their own comic.
So it’s kind of a weird feeling because on one side i became more popular and focused on monster girls, but on the other side i became more popular for literally doing things wrong.
Didn’t you say that “if something becomes popular it’s probably bad because for something to be popular it needs to be simple” or something like that?
That’s more or less what i say in the article
I think the reason why the participation ratio is so low is because this depends a lot, A LOT on the drawing quality.
People see the quality of the participants, and know or feel that they cannot reach that level that is required for their drawings to be even taken into consideration. And thus, they don’t even bother to try it. Because they think that, no matter how funny or how original are the situations in which they draw the characters, if they can’t have that drawing quality they won’t be seen twice.
With the monster design contest this doesn’t happen because they can let their imaginations go wild without fearing that you won’t take them into account.
