281. Christmas dinner
I’ll have to add here a clarification that shouldn’t need to be done, but i think at 2019 is clear people have lost the capacity to understand. Characters in a comic don’t represent the views of the artist. Or they SHOULDN’T, since we know that right now a lot of artists use their characters as paws to inject their ideological agenda, like Marvel. But this wave of using characters as mouthpieces, however how big it is, doesn’t represent good writting. Good characters have their own personality, with their own politics, ther own strong points and flaws. A good character stops at some point been written by the author and instead writes themselves. If you’re a good writter and have good characters, whenever a situation arises you don’t think what you want the characters to say; you try to guess what those characters would say in that situation. And if the characters opinion don’t align, conflict arises.
Characters in many comic’s today seem to be forced to never disagree on any politically correct issue, which makes them feel like the same character with just some different quircks, unidimensional and boring, and they’re of course always the perfect image of social justice, who’s never wrong because they’re on the side of the greater good. Not on my comics.
My characters have set personalities, and they operate with that. None of them has been written to be my personal politics or what i personally disagree with, or to be the perfect image of a hero. Both K’sara and Europa were created years before the cultural war arised, and any mention of today’s politics, like the use of terms like “social justice warrior” are there only because later it became clear those terms applied to the characters, not the opposite. Both K’sara and Europa have positions i agree with, positions i disagree with, and positions i would agree with if moderate, but they take too far. If you’ve read all of Monster girls on tour and my older comic Guild adventure, you know by now that K’sara believes in strengh and the law of the strong; she doesn’t help others if it doesn’t benefict her, and has a supremacist touch regarding Salamanders and other races (though to be fair, in my comics Salamanders ARE a superior race), but also believes all races should be treated equally, based on merit, believes in personal responsibility, true strenght, valor and individual rights. Europa on the other hand is what you would call a social justice warrior; she is compasionate and looks to help others and preserve rights for everyone, but she goes too far, she’s blind to the reality arround her and instead believes in narratives about the evil humans opressing everyone; she is willing to manipulate and cause harm to others “for the greater good”, based on an incorrect version of the world, ignoring what others tell her about how things really work, and has a concept of other races as incapable of pulling themselves up without external help; specially her help. Essentially, from the two, she’s the racist, and a big part of why she does what she does is wanting the moral high ground by been, what you would call, a “white savior”, tho i don’t want to talk much about that part yet.
Both characters are designed to have extreme opposites and clash, not to express what i believe the world should be.
Me: Better keep a close eye on K’sara and Twine, when there near that Porsche.
Europa: do you say that, because there not humans?!
Me: no, because there black. I trust you more than anyone around that Porsche. XD
Also: Thank you for comfirming that Europa is manipulative. I knew she was, but I wanted you to say it.
Also 2.0: I seriously thought that Europa had a no swearing rule.
I seriously don’t understand why this comic is called “christmas dinner”.
Cause it’s typical on christmas dinners to have angry political discussions with family
ah yes, christmas.
That one communist in the family, that can’t shut up. XD
“My mother: Don’t talk about politics in the Christmas Eve dinner.
Me: Okey.

Five people died during that christmas dinner. XD
Cue the Dwarf Merchant meme.
DESPITE SALAMANDERS MAKING UP 13% OF THE POPULATION-
Seriously though, this yet another reason why I love K’sara. She hates weakness in all its forms as well as those who encourage and enable it. To her, the highest form of justice is when the individual has exactly what they have earned- no more, no less. She sees every being as an individual before part of a race, but believes all races are entitled to favour their own kind just as much as she favours hers.
Also Kukuruyo I would like to know which Marvel characters you think are mouthpieces for their writer’s personal politics. I don’t think you’re talking about any of the X-Men movies since I’m assuming you’re aware that prejudice has always been a theme in X-Men. In the MCU I haven’t seen Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, Black Panther or Ant-Man And The Wasp, but I have seen all the others. Out of the 17 I HAVE seen, the only time I felt an unnecessary and out-of-place political jab was in Spider-Man Homecoming when “MJ” said the Washington Monument was built by slaves. I have HEARD of some of the anti-white shit in Black Panther, but to be fair, like X-Men, that’s always been a part of that story, Wakanda’s strong ethnonationalism.
Mouthpiecing happens in the comics, where all the characters have the same opinions in social issues and vote for Hillary
Wait, where the fuck does it say that they make up 13% of the population? Is that written in the lore?
And you actually read the lore? XD
also: I seriously don’t get why I don’t like K’sara (not that much I mean). K’sara doesn’t have a bad design and she is pretty badass.
I think its because of Dragon?
Dragon is so fucking cool that I completely forget that K’sara is the protagonist. Maybe its because of Dragon that I don’t see K’sara as a protagonist, but more as a side character, even though Dragon is the side character.
When I see this group I just feel like Europa is the protagonist and K’sara is the secondary character, even though its exactly the opposite. Maybe that’s because I like Europa better than K’sara (in design and idiology).
I could also be Europa’s fault that I don’t like K’sara?
Who knows.
You seriously didn’t get that? It’s a reference to modern (american) politics. All of this is.
Salamanders => Black Americans (which are ~13% of the US population)
Dwarfs => Jews (them controlling everything is a reference to far right conspiracy theories)
Humans => White Americans (them beeing better then other races is a reference to progressive narratives)
K’sara => hard Individualist, Liberalist
Europa => more to the side of socialistic and collectivist mindset (so closer to US left or general European politics).
Raptor already pictured K’saras worldview. Europas views are of course more progressive because of her pacifist nature in contrast to K’sara. She wants everybody to get along while K’sara want so beat the crap out of everybody.
off course, I noticed the simularity between modern politics and this webcomic.
I just didn’t know that black people made up 13% of the population of America.
And I think (or I hope) that K’sara’s idiology goes beyond simply just wanting to beat the crap out of everybody, but I could be wrong.
More like she wants to fight strong oponents. I did a political test for her time ago and it did say she was a libertarian.
And thats why I don’t ‘love’ K’sara, as much as some of the other cast members.
Salamanders are badass and all, and I know that thats litterally all they do, but making a good protagonist out of someone who just wants to ‘fight strong opponents’ is challenging, and thats why I see Europa as the protagonist and K’sara as the sidekick, instead of the other way around.
So what you are saying is that you don’t like DragonBall? Or that Bulma or Krillin is the protagonist?
As I see it K’sara is a rather simple protagonist without major character growth (at least until now). But that is actually a benefit for the story. Otherwise it would be hard to pull of such a big cast. The protagonist would be the center of attention all the time and all the plot would evolve around her or respectively her way of thinking.
This way the rest of the cast have their ties to her but they are lose enough that you can do whatever. You have the freedom to put your attention to any character you like without having a conflict with the story.
This is the reason why we have the most common stereotypes of protagonists. Either they are very simple, basically blanks to fill in whatever you need, or very distinctinve characters that everything evolves around.
Well, I don’t watch much anime, and I haven’t started watching Dragon Ball. I do love Avatar (don’t know if that counts as an anime), Bayblade, cory in the house, and goblin slayer is pretty cool, I guess.
And I have nothing to disagree with.
Thats exactly why I don’t ‘love’ K’sara. She doesn’t have much going for her. I hope one day, that she will be likeable for me, like Oni and Lizard, who I found boring in the beginning, and Oni is one of my favourite characters now, and Lizard got more likeable.
K’sara is like the centurion from for honor.
I want to love her/him, but I simply can’t. XD
I was today years old, when I figured out that what Raptor was talking about was a meme, because im a dumb fuck. XD
But how many procent of the population of Robukan do salamanders make? I think between 4% and 10% or something like that. I do know that there are not allot of them, but they probably really are responsible for 50% of all homicides in Robukan, considering that all salamanders do is fuck up situations.
Nice! Characters assuming non politically correct speech. They are lacking recently.
“You think where unable to actieve the same as humans?”
Well, I don’t see any salamanders that are lawyers, guildmasters, or dentists, because everybody is scared of them.
I seriously don’t know, which side im on.
