GG Triggerhappy: Gillette
Gillette did an ad that has become, at the moment of writting this, the 5th most disliked video in youtube. The ad itself isn’t THAT bad; it’s the typical corporate “let’s be all kind to each other” ad, but it makes clear from the beginning that they’re promoting the feminist idea that masculinity is toxic, in a time when people are already tired of been told that some born immutable characteristics as the root of all evil and can be shamed and mocked, while offending others an make you lose your job.
The company was probably fooled into thinking that feminism was the idology that dominated society, when in reality it only gives that impression cause it controls the media, and that by going woke they would win money with those male feminist allies. But as it often happens, feminsits are not gonna buy a product for caving to their ideology, and long time consumers will be alienated an leave. A classical story of “get woke go broke”.
Or maybe i’m downplaying it because i live in Spain, the most feminist country in the world, where feminism dominates the institutions and is promoted in full force by the government, the media and the companies, so this kind of ad is like low level compared to what i usually see, but maybe it’s a big deal for the US.

American feminists for the womans march are anti-semetic here stateside, that’s a good laugh.
A Youtube channel called The Britisher pointed out the folly of Gillette spending decades to establish the slogan “The Best a Man Can Get” and then damaged its own brand. 2 months later they are using the slogan again (for their aftershave).
Procter&Gamble was founded in 1837 making candles and soap. It’s Ivory brand floating soap has been around since 1880. It was so heavily into housewives’ products that it sponsored so many of the daytime radio series aimed at women that these became known as soap operas.
Sure, it made Head and Shoulders shampoo for men (and women) but it was basically a womens’ products company. Then it bought Gillette. Sure, Gillette made Lady Gillette razors but it was basically a mens’ products company.
The management couldn’t see anything wrong with the idea that you could get rid of all your old customers, instantly replacing them with new customers. (This is the way the NBC network kept killing its sitcoms and never learning from their mistakes.) So they found a young woman who had made 3 little feminist films including one whose last line was a woman yelling “I can kick balls” with a clip of a woman kicking a soccer (football). The double entendre was obvious. What could go wrong with such a woman making her very first film to appeal to men?????
We all know what went wrong!
